The Current River
|
Venture no further than the waters edge and the big, steady flow of a river quietly exhilarates you. But, float on the Current and ride downstream in a canoe or innertube and suddenly the companionship with a new and watery world of excitement is yours. Either way a river becomes an intimate friend. At days end, take it with you, all of it, the animals that scurried up the bank, the birds that flew overhead screaming alarms, the tiny wildflowers under thick canopies of trees, and even the bluffs that yield so slowly to the wear of time. The Current River is 75% spring fed and floatable year round.
The Current River remains nearly wild and natural as the day Indians lightly trod the Ozark trails. It was the first river in America to become a National Riverway. We invite you to see Ozark National Scenic Riverways and float the Current River with us. We will be happy to arrange a trip for you, your family or your group.
Most spring-fed of all the Ozark rivers, the Current may be floated at almost any time of the year, particularly below Welch Spring. It seldom freezes over and has been a favorite for the annual New Year's float of one large group of Missouri canoeists. Most canoe trips are made on the sections above Big Spring.
